UMUORII RAINBOW ESTATE is an ultra-modern residential and commercial housing estate currently being developed on the 15.014 Hectares former site of Old Owerri Local Government Headquarters situate along Egbu/Uratta Ring Road Owerri North, otherwise known as Plot P.10 Egbu/Uratta Layout Owerri North.
The project commenced in Year 2007 on the basis of the Umuorii Rainbow Estate Layout Drawing/Design approved by the town planning authority being the Town Planning & Open Spaces Division of Imo State Ministry of Lands, Survey & Physical Planning dated 18th June 2007. But owing to distortions done by different interest groups between 2016 and 2023, the development of the Layout was impeded by countless ligations all of which have come to an end.
As part of necessary harmonization and reconstruction activities now going on, the Layout Drawing/Design is being varied subject to formal approval by both the town planning authority and the High Court whose orders have shaped the course of the project.This website has been created for promotional need of the project. Today’s Umuorii Rainbow Estate site used to be the old Owerri Local Headquarters Head Quarters which Imo State Government acquired for that purpose from the original landowners in 1990. Compensation as required by the Land Use Act was duly paid to the original landowners by Owerri North Local Government.
Title devolved from the old Owerri Local Government to Owerri North Local Government in 1997 and finally to Owerri North Housing Estates Limited (now Umuorii Rainbow Estates Limited) in 2007.
It is pertinent to disclose here that project implementation flagged off in March 2007, but the project soon became the subject of several court litigations orchestrated by different classes of original landowners who at the end lost one after another up to the Court of Appeal. A band of fraudsters had also forcefully entered into the land in contempt of subsisting judicial pronouncements and Land Registry records, but they forfeited their efforts to the company in line with judgment enforcement orders subsequently made by the High Court in 2019. The High Court also ordered demolition of all illegal structures built on the land.
The project is now back on tract and ongoing.
